It seems that complaint report on the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD has finally paid off. Samsung just announced an upcoming firmware update that will address some of the issues the user community has reported. Unfortunately, the less-than-24fps video recording is not among them.
There are three changes that the firmware update will bring. The first is an improved browser, with faster user interface. The browser on the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD needed a kick in the pants for its real life experience.
The next update is the addition of kinetic scrolling, which the browser already has, but the rest of the interface doesn’t. Samsung spruced up the S60 5th edition UI with its widget happy TouchWiz UI, but changes didn’t go much further than the homescreen. At least now, the Samsung Omnia HD can catch up with the rest of the touchscreen gang.

The operator Sprint has officially announced that in the first quarter of next year they sold smartphones Samsung Omnia HD and Samsung Moment will receive a new firmware, and the last one will be running OS Android 2.1. And the main improvements of the known devices will receive the function of the kinetic scrolling. What other features will be added – is unknown. However, if for Symbian-cmartfona Omnia HD scrolling was promised at the beginning of the year, on the introduction of OS Android 2.1 Flan is no such certainty – according to preliminary information of his installation on Samsung Moment would be possible somewhere in the first half of 2010. Official details will be announced after the New Year.

So Sprint’s backtracking on its promise to deliver Android 2.0 to its Hero and Moment in the first half of next year, but it’s backtracking in an awesome way for a change of pace — they’ll actually be getting 2.1. That makes tons of sense considering that the leaked Hero builds have all been on 2.1 and 2.0 will be all but obsolete by the time HTC gets around to releasing anything — so yeah, we probably could’ve predicted this anyway, but now it’s official. Unfortunately that 1H 2010 window hasn’t been reigned in at all, but here’s hoping this is a case where they under-promise and over-deliver.

Sprint has promised that both its Android-based smartphones, the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment, are going to get upgraded to the newest version of of Google’s operating system, Android OS 2.0.
The big news is really the Moment’s upgrade, as HTC has already committed to release Android OS 2.0 for the Hero.
Both these models debuted with Android OS 1.5, and an operating system upgrade will bring a range of new features, such as support for multiple Microsoft Exchange accounts, an improved version of the web browser, and better camera software.

We have some great news for the owners of Samsung S8000 Jet: there is a new firmware update for the Jet bringing lots of goodies for your phone. As it turned out it’s been a while since it first showed up but most probably many of you (we as well) have missed it.
So much has been changed thanks to the S8000XEII2 firmware! The Samsung S8000 Jet now has a a different 3D Cube background as well as some new widgets (Twitter, MySpace and Facebook). The TouchWiz UI is similar to the one we’ve seen in Samsung M8910 Pixon12: you can rearrange the main menu icons.
According to some Jet owners who have already tried out the new firmware (thanks, Andrew!), the phone now feels much zippier. The WebKit-based Dolphin web browser has also been improved and so has been the media browser. Thumbnails are now loaded much faster and scrolling speed is increased, however, viewing images is a bit slower (opening an image takes a second or two more).
