Samsung’s Bada Mobile Platform Due Dec. 8th

samsung bada os

Samsung, after unveiling its open mobile platform for touch screen-based mobile phones, bada, earlier this month, and launching a related web site, has confirmed the date of its December launch event to deliver the SDK: Dec. 8th. According to Samsung’s invitation, the event will take place at Vinopolis in London, and Dr. Hosco Lee, EVP and head of the Media Solution Center (MSC) at Samsung Electronics, will preside. An event in San Francisco is slated to follow the London launch.

Samsung’s bada will add to what is becoming heated competition among open mobile platforms, especially with Android gaining momentum. One big question surrounding bada is how ready developers will be to get behind it. It’s said to be a software layer, not a fully realized operating system, that would sit on top of Samsung’s proprietary operating system. That could raise questions among developers about how truly open it is. We’ll know more Dec. 8th.

samsung s7070 review

In order to achieve their ambition of being the No. 1 handset manufacturer in the world, It seems that Samsung are determined to keep on producing high quality touch screen devices, to flood the market with their products, so whatever you are looking for, prepay, contract, low, mid or high use, there will be a Samsung device to suit your needs.

The Samsung S7070 is another in this long line of Samsung touchscreen handsets, sporting a large, 3.0 inch TFT resistive display, supporting up to 256,000 colours and with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. The S7070 runs the eye catching TouchWiz UI, which offers a smooth, flowing menu system, which is easy to navigate and logically laid out. Samsung like to use colourful icons, which present well on their TFT displays, and the TouchWiz UI lends itself well to this. From the main screen it will be possible to populate the display with a variety of widget style shortcuts which are ordinarily hidden from view on a slide out menu taskbar.

Samsung Mythic A897 review

Phonearena just wrote an interesting review of Samsung Mythic A897: Samsung has been working closely with AT&T in offering the most abundant TouchWiz powered phones. It started way back with the Eternity and now we’ve finally come close to a year with their latest touchscreen handset, the Samsung Mythic SGH-A897, making its way to an already crowded TouchWiz lineup. Unlike the Samsung Solstice which was released not too long ago, the Mythic has a lot of new updated features to really make it a stand out model. We’ll see if it has what it takes to be compelling enough to become a truly mythic handset worthy enough to live up to its own name.

Samsung Forever for Roger

samsung forever

Yet another Samsung phone from Roger. The phone is strangely named Forever, giving the idea that you’ll have the cellphone forever, or not…

Anyhow, the Samsung Forever which is already available for purchase at Rogers stores boasts a WQVGA LCD screen with a 2-megapixel camera, and runs TouchWiz. The other good feature on the Forever cellphone is the 3.6Mbps of HSDPA. In case you’re interested in the device, keep in mind that it will cost close to $75 after signing a 3-year contract, but at least you’ll have a “cool” smartphone.

Samsung Moment mobile phone review

samsung moment review

Lets talk about Samsung Moment, one of the best Android-powered handsets out there, with its AMOLED screen, fast processor and the “now” network. But can its specs live up to the dream? Read on to find out.

To say that the Samsung Moment is big would be an understatement; to say that it was ugly: a fairer statement; to say it is fast: that much is true. That’s pretty much the best way to describe the new Android 1.5 smartphone because whilst it’s one of the fastest Android handsets we’ve tested, it’s also one of the most unpolished in terms of “wow” factor t.

Confirmed: Bell getting Android Samsung Galaxy

samsung galaxy android

A little confirmation is always a good thing… especially when it has to do with Samsung and Bell’s first Android device.

A poster now in Bell locations with the title “Innovation beyond your Imagination” has 3 devices on it: Samsung Galaxy with a nice Android logo, Omnia II and the Impact.

Both the Omnia II and Impact have already launched on Bell’s new HSPA network and we knew from the Reclaim launch that speculations were that the Galaxy was headed to Bell. A poster gives confirmation but a date is still in question. Max Karlin of Samsung Canada gave us a quick overview of the Galaxy which can be seen here. I didn’t put a watermark on the poster as it’s already a bit blurry but it states:

Qik to come preloaded on the Samsung Omnia II

samsung omnia II applications

We like to keep an eye on the adoption of mobile video broadcasting applications around these parts. It’s a mighty competitive space, with Qik, Kyte, Flixwagon, UStream and a number of others all taking a stab at what is essentially the same idea. While the idea as a whole has yet to really take off as something that everyone does, its one that just about everyone seems to appreciate once it’s explained to them. Therein lies the challenge: how do you tell people that such services exist?

One approach is to get it on the handsets right out of the box. If it’s hard to get them to come to you, why not go to them?

The only one of the lot we’ve seen do this so far is Qik, who managed to convince Nokia to pre-install Qik on all of their S60-based phones beginning in July. Today, they’ve announced a new factory-loading partner: Samsung.

Samsung Pixon 12 Hands on Video

What are you expecting when you cross the Samsung Pixon with the Samsung Jet and throw in a 12 megapixelled digital camera while you’re at it? You get Samsung’s newest Pixon 12! In my opinion, this is the Samsung Pixon the way it should have been from the start, as far as usability is concerned.

TouchWiz 2.0, insane camera, for a non-smartphone, what’s there not to love? If you ask me? I think Samsung still needs to work on their on-screen keyboard. What does this phone mean to you? Why don’t you watch this episode of Gear65 and let us know if you like what you see!
